Injury Update

Well it has been almost two months since I last posted on my blog. I was on pace and had just finished running the Green Bay marathon with my brother, Nathaniel, for a 2,500 mile year. Running was going well - prepping for the Burning River 100 Miler in August. Then....

....on June 17, I tore my right soleus calf muscle.

Went from running 60 miles a week to zero in an instant. Even had to walk home while on that (supposed to be 8) six mile mark.

Doctors orders were no running until the pain subsided, and he stated it would be approximately a month. It was about two weeks, and then back to light running.

I am slowly making my way back to the roads with a new appreciation for all those athletes who suffer injury. But...at least it wasn't like this:

These guys had a worse day. They were testing a new shark repellent device. It was an item you attach to your calf muscle area while surfing and it was supposed to deter a shark attack. In testing, it attracted this Great White - who thoroughly downed the device in one bite.

The morale of the story: In running, it could always be worse!
